Argentina to Export Most Soybeans in 15 Years

In its monthly estimate, the Argentine Ministry of Agriculture increased their estimate of 2024/25 soybean exports from 9 million tons to 12.3 million. This would be the highest volume since 13.4 million tons were exported during the 2009/10 growing season.
This represents a year-on-year increase of 169% in soybean exports compared to the 4.5 million tons exported in 2023/24. The surge in exports is the result of the second trade dispute between the United States and China. After the first Trump administration, China turned to more reliable trading partners in South America for its soybean needs.
Exports also increased after the Argentine government temporarily reduced the export tax on soybeans from 26% to 0% to spur sales. During the ensuing sales frenzy, at least 40 vessels of Argentina soybeans were booked by China for delivery during this month and next.
