Author: Michael Cordonnier/Soybean & Corn Advisor, Inc.

As mentioned earlier, both the Rosario and Buenos Aires Exchanges increased their corn acreage, but only the Rosario Exchange lowered the soybean acreage due to switching from soybeans to corn. The Rosario Exchange lowered the soybean acreage 200,000 hectares to 15.8 million hectares (39.0 million acres) resulting in production of 49.0 million tons. They indicated that the smaller area was compensated for with higher yields. The Buenos Aires Grain Exchange left the soybean estimate unchanged at 48.5 million tons. USDA is estimating the crop at 48.0 million tons.

Early soybean yields are promising with yields in the northern core in the range of 3,960 kg/ha (59 bu/ac) and the southern core reporting 4,200 kg/ha (62.5 bu.ac). The Buenos Aires Grain Exchange is reporting the average nationwide yield thus far at 3,750 kg/ha (55.8 bu/ac).
